Which Countries Indonesian Passport Holders Can Visit Without a Visa?

In addition to a passport, a visa is an important requirement for foreign tourists to be able to travel to another country. For example, if you want to go to Japan, obtaining a visa is mandatory before you depart to that country.

Unfortunately, obtaining a visa is not easy. Many documents are required, such as identification, a certificate of employment, bank statements, and other supporting documents. Additionally, you need to pay a visa application fee, whether the visa is approved or not. This leads many Indonesian tourists to choose visa-free countries to avoid the hassle of obtaining a visa before departure.

Visa-Free Countries for Indonesian Passport Holders

If you are planning to travel internationally but do not want to deal with the visa application process, you can visit the following countries:

Asia: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Macau, and Uzbekistan.

Europe: Belarus, Serbia, Turkey.

Middle East: Qatar and Oman.

America: Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Dominica, Ecuador, Guyana, Haiti, Colombia, Peru, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Africa: Angola, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, and Gambia.

Oceania: Cook Islands, Niue, Fiji, Micronesia, and Palau.

Visa-on-Arrival Countries for Indonesian Passport Holders

Besides visa-free entry, there is another form of cooperation facilitating Indonesian travelers to visit a country, called Visa-on-Arrival (VoA). What is VoA? Here is what you need to know.

Visa-on-Arrival or VoA is an entry and temporary stay permit granted by the immigration authorities at airports or seaports to foreign nationals. VoA can be used for tourism, visiting family, or business purposes (but not permanent employment in another country).

So, to enter countries with VoA, you still need to prepare supporting documents to be presented at the immigration of your destination country. The standard documents generally required are:

● Personal identification documents

● Passport with more than 6 months of validity

● Proof of return flight ticket reservation

However, each country may have different rules regarding VoA applications, so it is advisable that you find further information on VoA applications in your destination country to be well-prepared. Moreover, many countries now offer electronic Visa-on-Arrival.

For those looking for countries applying the VoA system for Indonesian passport holders, here is the list:

Asia: Timor Leste, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, and Nepal.

Europe: Azerbaijan.

Middle East: Armenia, Jordan, and Iran.

Africa: Burundi, Cape Verde Islands or Cape Verde, Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Guinea-Bissau, Malawi, Mauritania, Mauritius, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Togo, and Zimbabwe.

Oceania: Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, and Samoa.

Aside from Visa-on-Arrival, some countries, such as Pakistan and Sri Lanka, provide entry and temporary stay permits through electronic travel authorization (eTA). Meanwhile, e-passport holders can also enjoy the convenience of obtaining entry and temporary stay permits in Japan by applying for a visa waiver.

The Japan visa waiver is a special permit for entry and temporary stay in Japan that is only available to Indonesian e-passport holders, and the application process is very simple. You only need to submit a valid e-passport and an application form to the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia, and within a few days, you can obtain the waiver.

Important to Note Before Visiting Visa-Free Countries

Whether you are visiting visa-free countries, using Visa-on-Arrival, electronic travel authorization, or visa waiver (specifically for Japan), you need to know the maximum stay limit in the country you are visiting. Each country normally has a different time limit, ranging from 10, 15, to 30 days. If you plan to stay longer for any reason, you should apply for a visa in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Now you know which countries you can visit without the hassle of obtaining a visa. But, before going to any of those countries, make sure to purchase your International Travel Insurance from MSIG Indonesia. This way, you will not be troubled or worried if risks occur while you are traveling internationally because this insurance will help cover your losses, as long as they are not within the exclusions.
