Four Recommended Legendary Coffee Shops in Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is widely known as the City of Students since the city has many universities and other higher education institutions. The city is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia. Hence, it is not surprising that it has numerous legendary cafes. What are these legendary coffee shops? Let's find out in this article!

Angkringan Lik Man

Although it is not a permanent establishment, Angkringan Lik Man sells charcoal coffee (locally known as jos kopi) that you should  include in your itinerary when you are on vacation in Yogyakarta. Why is that? Because this is the first angkringan that sells charcoal coffee in Yogyakarta!

Angkringan Lik Man has been around since the 1950s. From the VOA Indonesia page, we learn that this angkringan was initiated by a man from Klaten named Prawira (Paira), who is Lik Man's father.

Lik Man continued his father’s business in 1968 after it was closed for 3 years. The use of the name Lik Man, instead of his father's name, as the name of his angkringan came from his reputation as the first to serve the menu of charcoal coffee. If you are curious about the taste of this coffee, which has long been one of Yogyakarta's culinary specialties, don't forget to stop by his place!

Warung Kopi Klotok Yogyakarta

This second recommended coffee shop has gone viral in the past year. Thanks to social media, Warung Kopi Klotok Yogyakarta, owned by Mrs. Yani, continues to be crowded every day. Many visitors are willing to queue for hours to taste the snacks and coffee sold at this shop. The story goes that Warung Kopi Klotok Yogyakarta was created when Mrs. Yani's husband missed home-cooked snacks that were rarely found around their residence. To fulfill her husband’s request, Mrs. Yani opened a klotok coffee shop (coffee directly brewed using a pan on a charcoal stove) in the Kaliurang area in 2015.

Aside from coffee and snacks, the shop's selling point is the view. Warung Kopi Klotok was built on a 3-hectare land facing a rice field. No wonder visitors from outside Yogyakarta would queue to visit this place. They not only get a cup of warm coffee, but they can also view a beautiful, captivating landscape!

Warung Kopi Blandongan

The third recommendation is Warung Kopi Blandongan which is located in Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This coffee shop is also quite old, having been opened in 2000 by a student from Gresik.

A little similar to Warung Kopi Klotok, Warung Kopi Blandongan also carries a homey concept, with an old house building and home-cooked dishes. This is certainly not unintentional. Mr. Badrun, the owner of this coffee shop, opened the coffee shop to serve a cup of coffee like in his home in Gresik.

Besides coffee, the shop, which also offers the coolness of Bantul region, sells various juice drinks and from light to heavy meals. Most importantly, the prices are affordable! Aren’t you interested in trying?

Filosofi Kopi Yogyakarta

The last recommended coffee shop is most likely familiar to those of you from Jakarta or other big cities. The reason is, Filosofi Kopi was born after the book by Dee Lestari and its film adaptation went popular in 2015. The two actors who played in this film, Chicco Jerikho and Rio Dewanto, are also the owners of the Filosofi Kopi shop.

Carrying the big name, without a doubt, the Filosofi Kopi Yogyakarta branch in Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta, is one of the spots you must visit. The taste of the coffee and snacks offered is certainly delicious. This coffee shop also offers a unique concept and experience.

Filosofi Kopi Yogyakarta was built in an old joglo (a simple four-pillar frame) with an elegant, spacious, and beautiful impression. Enjoying a cup of coffee and a plate of pastry here will definitely give you a different coffee shop experience.

Those are the four recommended legendary coffee shops in Yogyakarta. Before going there, you should not forget to buy Travel Insurance from MSIG Indonesia, which provides comprehensive protection for you and your family when traveling domestically or abroad!
