A Day in Tokyo: Follow This Itinerary to Enjoy Its Beauty

A trip to Japan feels incomplete without visiting Tokyo. Even if you plan to stay in another prefecture, such as Osaka, Hiroshima, or Kyoto, it would be a pity not to allocate some time to Tokyo.
As the capital city of Japan, Tokyo has many interesting places to visit. But, what if you only have one day to explore it? Which places should you visit first?
Not to worry, here are some recommended places you can visit if you have just one day in Tokyo.

Tokyo Imperial Palace
Start your day by visiting the Tokyo Imperial Palace, which is just 500 meters from Tokyo Station. You can leisurely walk there while soaking in the sceneries of Tokyo.
The Tokyo Imperial Palace is the residence of Japan’s imperial family. It was destroyed during World War II but was rebuilt to resemble the original structure.
Although the inside of the palace is not open to the public, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings for free. Plus, you can get a straight view of the palace buildings that are still in use today.
If you are curious to learn more about the palace, you can also go on a guided tour. The full tour, which involves exploring while listening to the guide, takes about 75 minutes. However, you are also welcome to explore the grounds on your own simply.

Akihabara
Next, head to Akihabara. This place is a must-visit, especially if you are an otaku—someone with a strong interest in Japanese culture, such as manga and anime—or if you are a fan of the idol group AKB48.
Even if you are not an otaku or idol fan, Akihabara is still worth a visit. There, you will find unique aspects of Japanese culture that you will not see elsewhere. For example, there are maid cafés, where the servers dress in distinctive costumes according to the café’s theme. Sometimes, they will even act in cutesy ways to entertain the guests.
To get there, take the Keihin-Tōhoku Line from Tokyo Station to Akihabara Station. The moment you step out of the station, you will immediately sense the unique atmosphere of the area.

Tokyo Sky Tree
As the day turns to evening, it is time to relax while enjoying Tokyo’s stunning night views from the height. You can visit Tokyo Sky Tree, located at 1 Chome-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida City, Tokyo 131-0045.
Tokyo Sky Tree is the tallest broadcasting tower in Japan, standing at 634 meters. You do have to pay to enter and explore the place, and the ticket is not cheap—it will cost you ¥2,400 to view Tokyo from 350 meters above the ground. However, the view is absolutely breathtaking, making it well worth the price.
To get there, from Akihabara Station, you can take the Chūō-Sōbu Line (Local) to Asakusabashi Station and transfer to the Asakusa Line to Oshiage Station. From the station, you can walk to Tokyo Sky Tree.
Those are the three places you can visit if you only have one day in Tokyo. Before you plan your trip to Japan, be sure to remember to purchase International Travel Insurance from MSIG Indonesia for a safer travel experience. And, have fun exploring Tokyo!
